New Year, New Goals

1/3/2015

What are your goals for the new year?

Personally, I don't like using the word resolution. The concept of new years resolutions usually taunts me, primarily because I forget my resolutions within 3 days.

Instead, I like to set a few goals. If they happen, great. If not, oh well.

In 2015, I want to:

  1. Start running more, just for the heck of it.
  2. Finish reading the Divergent books I started over Winter Break.
  3. Learn to crochet.

What about you? Do you have any goals?

Assessment

Keeping in mind The Epic of Gilgamesh, The Book of the Dead, and Adoration of the Disk, select one of the assessments below. Each response should be either 2 stanzas or 2 paragraphs, 8-10 sentences (or lines) each.

Choice # 1

Go to  www.bookofdead.com.

Go to the interactive plates on the website.

Choose one of the poems and independently identify the speaker, tone, and belief in the afterlife.

Write your own Book of the Dead poem. You may choose Osiris and follow the guidelines above.

Choice #2

Complete an autobiographical papyrus scroll.

Respond to the following questions:

A)    What would you like people to find written about you when they open your tomb thousands of years from now?

B)   Would you leave instructions about how to bury you, your feelings on this current life, what you expect out of the next life?

Write an autobiographical papyrus scroll. Use the scrolls on www.bookofdead.com as an example.

What is culture?

9/9/2014

We all belong to a culture.

Culture is the combination of:

·      human knowledge

·      beliefs

·      behavior

that we learn and pass on to future generations.

We usually express our culture in certain ways, like

·      how we dress

·      what we eat

·      what we believe

·      even how we played as kids

For your first blog post, due by Wednesday at 11:59pm, I would like you to write 1-2 paragraphs on what culture you most closely identify with.  You may base this blog post on different cultures and groups that we have discussed in class. You may include pictures and video clips in your post if you would like, but you still must write 1-2 paragraphs. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.
